Omega Speedmaster and Grey Side of the Moon Comparison
There are countless variants of the Omega Speedmaster series. After all, this iconic chronograph is the first watch worn on the moon, so even decades later, the brand will continue to add new Omega watches to the Speedmaster series to celebrate its presence in the replica watch industry. The status in China is not surprising. Although many versions have followed the original model design that landed on the moon in 1969, with a classic black dial and bezel with all-steel finishes, Omega also tried different materials, colors, movements, and even bracelet options.
This brings us to the topic of this article, Omega Speedmaster’s dark side of the moon and the gray side of the moon. What are the similarities between them, and what makes them different? Also, which one should you buy? Here, we will carefully study each of these unique versions, and compare the dark side of the moon with the gray side of the Omega Speedmaster, and finally determine which one is best for your wrist.
In addition, although the two Speedmasters have the same dial layout—two sub-dials at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock and a date window at 6 o’clock—their appearance is different due to their materials. This version of Dark Side uses a polished black ceramic dial with 18K white gold applied hour markers, while Gray Side uses a striking meteorite dial with 18k Sedna gold applied hour markers and hands. The appearance of each model is equipped with a black-coated nylon fabric strap (for the dark side) and a gray leather strap (for the gray side). Both bracelets are made with new ceramic and titanium folding clasps in their respective colors.
Co-Axial Calibre 9300 is an internal automatic chronograph movement launched by Omega in 2011. Functions include central hour and minute hands, central chronograph hands, 60-minute and 12-hour recorders at 3 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and date window at 6 o’clock.
Another somewhat colorful version of the dark side of the moon is the Apollo 8 reference. 311.92.44.30.01.001-A tribute to the 50th anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 8 mission-with yellow highlights and a skeleton movement, engraved with patterns reflecting the surface of the moon. The most interesting thing about Alinghi and Apollo 8 Dark Side of the Moon is that they use a manual winding movement instead of the automatic winding movement that OMEGA’s other ceramic Speedmaster replica watches are equipped with.
The coaxial caliber 9300 certified by the Observatory provides the wearer with a 60-hour power reserve, and both models are water-resistant to 50 meters. Omega insists that reduced friction means longer repair intervals and ultimately makes the watch more durable, requiring less maintenance over time.
